Village Community Development Society (VCDS) is a Non-Profit, Non-Religious, Non-Governmental and Secular organization which is working for the downtrodden and marginalized people to bring equality, dignity and social status in 30 villages in Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu, India for the past 45 years, involved in various social and economic development programs for different people of the community viz. children, women, dalits (Socially and economically excluded people of the society), farmers, fishermen, etc. VCDS was started in the year 1980 by Mr. S Martine and Mrs. S. Kousalya among others.
VCDS main centre is based in Vellakulam, Tamil Nadu. The three other centers are located in Karasanoor, Mugaiyur and Naravakkam villages in Tamil Nadu which are 30-40 kilometers away from each other. VCDS now operates in 60 villages in this area.
VCDS is legally established in 1980 according to Tamil Nadu Society Registration Act of 1975 (Reg no: 5/1980) and also registered with the Home Ministry of India under Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA no: 076010031). Further it is exempted tax under 12-A of the Income Tax. VCDS has its CSR registration number CSR00021093 registered with Ministry of Corporate Affairs. There is a 7-member board which takes care of the policies and activities of the Organization. There is a finance committee which takes responsibility of monitoring various projects to see that each project is implemented as per the plan.
