Covid-19 emergency response
During the COVID-19 pandemic, VCDS was involved in the provision of food and dry rations for children and families affected in Tamil Nadu. Indeed, the pandemic had caused severe issues of malnourishment for the children, which resulted in negative effects in their growth and education. It had also caused major financial gaps for the families, who thus couldn’t support their children’s needs. It has had serious long-term consequences, and today, families are still in the binding process of bridging the education, healthand finance gap. The food and dry rations provided by VCDS helped the children to boost their resilience and immunity against Covid-19.
2024 Cyclone Fengal Response
VCDS organized an emergency-relief program following 2024 Cyclone Fengal, which brought exceptionally heavy rainfall to coastal areas of Tamil Nadu. Government provided alternative temporary shelter for a couple of days but when they returned to their homes, they couldn’t continue their daily life. Their survival became a struggle, and that’s why VCDS provided emergency assistance worth approximately INR 7,50,000 to 135 families from affected communities. Support focused on particularly vulnerable groups, including tribal communities, nomadic and gypsy families, persons with disabilities and school children requiring educational materials and stationery. This action proves that out organization can implement large-scale food distribution, benefiting of a deeply community- rooted experience and knowledge.
