2017 Training on Waste and Waste Management
In 2017, we organized a Training on Waste and Water Management at village level. The study aimed at highlighting the sanitation level of rural Tamil Nadu, finding the reasonsfor ground water pollution and depletion of ground water table. Thi work served as a base data for future project development on water management and environmental actions.
2022 cancer awareness procession
In February 2022, VCDS organized a cancer awareness procession in six villages of Villupuram district. There, students could carry placards raising awareness on the causes and effects of cancer.
2022 World First Aid Day
In September 2022, VCDS held the World First Aid Day in its Non-Formal Schools. With the participation of several doctors, health inspectors and headmasters, speeches were given to children to raise awareness on good health and well being.
2022-2023 Sexual Violence Awareness Campaign
In March 2022 and May 2023, VCDS organized a seminar and awareness campaign on Sexual Violence against Women and Children at village-level. With the partnership of Maitri Women’s National Federation and Adecom Network, different laws and Acts were discussed : the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, Prevention of Domestic Violence Act, 2012 Dowry Prevention Act, Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, and Senior Citizens and Parents. Awareness was also given on parental protection of children and on the fight against harassment in schools and households. Issues discussed varied from a wide range : identifying abuses among minors, addressing the issue of domestic violence, rehabilitation facilities and methods, compensation and counselling for the abuse victims etc.
Stake-holders meeting were held with district or local level, police, judicial, women welfare department, medical officers and community servicing organisations in identifying and helping the victims of abuse and harassments.
In 2023, we organized a seminar where local free legal aid members, Inspectors of Police, Health Inspectors, welfare officers and stop centre officers took part in this program and shared information on the various schemes, laws and initiatives of government to help the victims of domestic abuse and harassment. 250 women from our working village were involved in this program.
2024 Farmers’ training on summer crop and land preparation
VCDS sustainable farming farmers federation members were given training on summer crop and land preparation for the summer crop cultivation in April 2024. 75 farmers from Villupuram district participated in this training program. Agriculture Department representatives, VCDS consultants, Small Farmers Association members and officers from the Tamil nadu Horticulture Department were invited as trainers.
2024 Legal Awareness Program by Villupuram Judicial Mediation Committee
Villupuram district magistrate court organizes legal awareness camps through its mediation committee in the rural areas in-order to sensitize the public on legal services available. Through this program, VCDS and VIllupuram Magistrate Court mediation committee together organized a mediation awareness camp on June 2024. Judges and Court Officials were invited, and spoke about the importance of mediation and its processes. Around 300 people from 10 villages participated in this awareness camp.
